Yachats is a small coastal city in Lincoln County, Oregon. Just outside Yachat is Cape Perpetua Scenic Area, a 2,700-acre forested headland on the Oregon Coast. The area has spectacular views and the visitor center hosts Whale Watching Weeks in winter and in spring. Near Cape Perpetua is Thor’s Well, a gaping, bottomless sinkhole on the edge of the Oregon coast that looks like it is swallowing all seawater. The North Fork of the Yachats Bridge is a 42-foot long covered bridge that carries North Fork Yachats River Road over the Yachats River. 1. Cape Perpetua Scenic Area
Cape Perpetua is a 2,700-acre forested headland on the Oregon Coast about two miles from Yachats, which extends into the Pacific Ocean. The area is part of the Siuslaw National Forest with massive old growth spruce, Douglas-fir, and western hemlock, barely visible through a coastal fog and powerful surf crashing on jagged shores. The headland rises over 800 feet above sea level and offers breathtaking views for miles. Cape Perpetua’s visitor center also has wonderful view of the ocean, from inside and from the deck. The center offers a range of short movies in the theatre. Its knowledgeable staff can answer questions and help you plan your trip. The scenic area is great destination for camping, picnicking, hiking, sightseeing, and whale watching.

2. Thor's Well, Yachats, Oregon
Thor’s Well is a gaping, bottomless sinkhole on the edge of the Oregon coast near Cape Perpetua and the town of Yachats. It looks like it is swallowing all seawater around it. While not really bottomless, this natural wonder, also known as the drainpipe of the Pacific, is actually a hole in the rock that appears to drain water from the ocean. The huge hole is probably only about 20 feet deep, and is most spectacular at high tide, or during storms when water violently crashes over the rocks and gets sucked into the hole. The well can be very dangerous during such sudden torrents, as unsuspecting visitors can be swept right into the maelstrom. Nevertheless, hundreds of photographers and nature lovers flock to see the stunning natural formation.

3. North Fork Yachats Covered Bridge, Yachats, OR
The North Fork of the Yachats Bridge is a 42-foot long covered bridge about nine miles from Yachats, Lincoln County, Oregon. The bridge carries North Fork Yachats River Road over the Yachats River. The bridge, the queen post truss structure, was built in 1938 by the renowned bridge builder Otis Hamer. It was the last covered bridge he built. One of only two covered bridges left in Lincoln County still open to traffic; the bridge has the weight limit of ten tons. Large trucks and RVs are not allowed. The bridge was repaired in 1987 after an accident damaged it. In 1989, county crew did more thorough renovation, replacing trusses, approaches, a roof and siding.

5. Yachats Brewing, Yachats, Oregon
Located in the heart of the charming coastal village of Yachats, Oregon, carved out of the rocky coastal headland and surrounded by the Siuslaw National Forest, Yachats Brewing + Farmstore was founded in 2013 by Nathan and Cicely Bernard focused on creating high quality brews that reflect and celebrate the unique majesty and culture of the region. The brewery building started originally as a bank in 1965, and has been lovingly transformed into a thriving spot for great beer, local food, and social gathering. The beautiful reclaimed old-growth Douglas Fir timbers used throughout the brewery was salvaged from the Brooklyn Roundhouse from SE Portland. Most of the furniture in the taproom was made from reclaimed wine barrels. The brewery restaurant uses locally grown produce, pasture raised meats, their own handcrafted brews, and house-fermented vegetables. The restaurant/taproom has 30 taps, with 15-20 of them featuring their award-winning beers and house-made probiotic beverages, such Kombucha, Jun, and Kefir soda. Great beers, famous juicy burgers and friendly atmosphere attract locals and visitors and the place is often packed.

6. Outta Gas Pizza, Yachats, Oregon

7. Yachats State Park
Located just minutes away from Central Yachats, Yachats State Park is a popular spot amongst visitors of all ages. While the park is small, its magnificent ocean views are larger than life. Visitors can access the park’s viewing platform and watch storming waves crash against the rocks or catch a glimpse of migrating whales. The park also offers several picnic areas for day-use visitors. And when weather permits, a rocky intertidal area can be accessed during low tide to view pools of sea life.
