What are the 25 Best Romantic Weekend Getaways in Idaho?

The 25 Best Romantic Weekend Getaways in Idaho according to local experts are:

More Ideas: Big Creek Lodge

Idaho is a truly special state, filled with mountains, forests, and stunning scenery all around. It's the home of many an outdoor adventurer, drawing in nature lovers and explorers from far and wide and being one of America's best camping, hiking, and backcountry destinations. It's a place where people can really feel at one with nature, and the state is also filled with lots of hidden gems and little-known locations where magical experiences can be enjoyed, like Big Creek Lodge.

Big Creek Lodge - Backcountry Lodge in Idaho

Situated at an elevation of over 5,700 feet above sea level, surrounded by nothing but trees, fields, and mountains, Big Creek Lodge is a special place with a whole lot of history behind it. The lodge was originally built in 1934 and known as Big Creek Hotel, serving as a comfortable and homely accommodation location for generations of pilots visiting the local airstrip and outdoor enthusiasts searching for adventures in the Idaho wilderness.

The Big Creek Hotel was a successful and beloved location, regarded as a true treasure that Idaho natives could be proud of and out-of-state visitors could fall in love with, but in October of 2008, everything changed. A terrible fire took hold of the lodge and surrounding buildings. The only buildings to survive the inferno were the old general store, a small cabin, and a simple shed.

Locals and frequent visitors believed that on that day, an iconic backcountry fly-in destination had been lost forever. Fortunately, that wasn't the end of the story for Big Creek Lodge. Shortly after the fire, the Idaho Aviation Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and advocating small and backcountry airstrips around Idaho, decided to raise some funds and rebuild the lodge, opening up to the public in 2018.

- Overview - Big Creek Lodge is a place quite unlike any other. Nearly a century of history is associated with this place, including that fateful fire of 2008, but the lodge still stands tall and proud, welcoming guests from far and wide. It offers multiple accommodation options, including the main lodge building, a yurt, and a cabin, as well as on-site dining, along with other amenities and features. It sits in the center of the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness, surrounded by the Salmon River Mountains. It's a place where people can escape into nature, spotting the likes of elk, moose, mountain goats, eagles, and even the odd bear or wolf in the wilderness.

- The Lodge - With history dating back to the 1930s, the Big Creek Lodge fell into ashes in the fire of 2008 but has been reconstructed, better than ever before and open for your next backcountry adventure. Honoring the traditions and features of the past while also providing the comforts and conveniences of the modern world, the lodge offers all the classic charms of a traditional mountain retreat with the feel of a luxury hotel. It features four rooms that can sleep families of two adults and two children. All rooms come with private bathrooms and plenty of in-room luxuries, and all rentals come with up to two breakfasts each day and access to all the activities of the lodge and surrounding areas.

- The Yurt - If you love the concept of glamping and want to really experience life in the wilderness, while still enjoying the comforts and luxuries that have become essential parts of modern life, the yurt at Big Creek Lodge might be the place for you. Situated about a mile from the main lodge, this intimate hidden spot is available for full or partial rentals. You can choose to rent out the whole place or simply rent a bed and share the space with other guests, potentially meeting some like-minded adventurers along the way. The yurt features an outdoor deck area, huge dining table, and propane stove.

- The Cabin - If you're looking for something cozy and comfortable, yet also romantic and unique, the cabin at Big Creek Lodge might be just right. It's only 50 yards from the main lodge, so you can easily walk over and enjoy meals and other amenities throughout the day. All guests at the cabin have access to up to two breakfasts per day and can use the showers in the lodge. The cabin itself features two separate spaces, each offering twin beds and a loft space for extra guests, as well as a half bathroom. It has no electricity, offering a rustic charm and aesthetic with its propane lights and lanterns.

- The Experience - Meals are served at Big Creek Lodge in the main lodge building. The menu is always changing to reflect the seasons, making use of fresh and local ingredients in each and every dish and offering that classic, camping, backcountry style cooking that every outdoor adventurer loves. As well as enjoying delicious meals and rustic accommodation, guests at Big Creek Lodge can partake in a wide variety of activities in the local area like horseriding, hiking, biking, fishing, and more.

Attraction Spotlight: Boise Art Museum

Located in Boise, Idaho, the Boise Art Museum is a facility that preserves and promotes the education and influence of art within an array of permanent attractions, special exhibits, and educational programs.

The Boise Art Association, Inc. was established on December 3, 1932. This non-profit corporation was established to promote the education and influence of art within the Boise community. Around the time the Boise Art Association, Inc. was established, the Association received a donation from the Carnegie Public Library in the form of a building to hold their art collection. This art collection was created with the initiative to allow the general public to gain an interest into the fine and applied arts.

In 1937 the Boise Art Association, Inc. raised enough funds to build and open their own official art gallery, titled the Boise Gallery of Art. The Boise Gallery of Art was located in the Julia Davis Park. Many of the exhibits showcased at the original Boise Gallery of Art include; Guggenheim Collection, Latin American Art, Hokusai Drawings, and Chinese American Art.

The Boise Gallery of Art continued to expand, and in the mid-1960s, the Boise Art Association, Inc. decided to start a fundraiser to fund an extensive renovation to the Boise Gallery of Art. In 1972, the Association raised enough money to fund the renovation, and the new gallery was built and open to the public one year later. When the building re-opened, the Boise Art Association, Inc. signified their new building and initiatives with a name change to the Boise Gallery of Art Association, Inc.

Almost one decade later, the Boise Gallery of Art Association, Inc. started a new fundraiser to fund a second renovation to the Boise Art Gallery that would create expansive room for the Associationís growing art collection. The Association raised enough funds for the renovation in 1986, and one year later the new building opened. To signify, yet again, another transition in the Associationís history, the Association changed its official name to the Boise Art Museum, Inc. The gallery also became known as the Boise Art Museum.

One of the last major events to occur in the Boise Art Museumís history was in 1997 when the Museum initiated a campaign worth well over $1 million. This campaign allowed the Museum to successfully renovate its building to have a whopping total area of 34,800 square feet.

The Boise Art Museum has an array of permanent art attractions that spread out across the Museumís total 34,800 square feet. The Boise Art Museum keeps an extra element of surprise by keeping much of the information about what lies within the Museumís permanent art collection a secret. What is known about the permanent art attractions is that they cover a variety of art forms from all over the world. Since there is almost no information about the Museumís permanent art attractions available outside of the Museum, you are going to have to visit the Museum to fully explore their extensive permanent art collection.

In addition to the Museumís extensive art collection, the Boise Art Museum regularly hosts traveling art exhibitions. For an updated list of the Museumís special attractions, check out the Museumís official website.

Like many other renowned art museums, the Boise Art Museum values education. This is shown through the Museumís extensive educational opportunities, such as specialized guided tours, field trips, classes, and workshops.
