The Goldmoor Inn is an extravagant yet comfortable inn located on the edge of the Mississippi River in Galena, Illinois.

It is one of the only bed and breakfasts in the area and offers fantastic views of the river and easy access to the ski slopes in the winter time. Surrounded by the wilderness and beautiful gardens, it truly is the perfect romantic getaway or family vacation spot. The Inn is only a few minutes from downtown and offers a selection of cabins, suites and cottages to all of its guests.

The main building at the Inn features 13 luxury suites which can accommodate up to 31 guests. Every suite is unique and has its own style of bedding and furniture, all with fireplaces and whirlpools to soak in at the end of the day. The Inn offers the Mississippi Suite, English Garden, Veranda Suite, Covington Suite and Chef’s Quarter, just to name a few.

The Mississippi Suite offers one of the best river views with its oversized windows and private screened porch. This suite, alongside the others, includes a king size bed, kitchen with refrigerator, sink, coffee maker and microwave, a television, in-room cookies, hot coffee and tasty breakfast delivered directly to the room.

The English Garden Suite features a king size bed and includes garden themed tapestries, fine china and brightly painted walls. It is over 600 square feet in size and has a quaint outside patio for lounging.

The Veranda Suite has a large sitting area with fantastic views of the river and comes with a king-sized bed and an additional twin sofa sleeper.

The Covington Suite is the perfect suite for newlyweds and couples looking for a romantic weekend getaway. This suite is over 800 square feet and has a king-sized bed, a bidet in the bathroom, and a beautiful fireplace and bath that overlooks the river. Guests who stay in the Covington Suite, can enjoy a lavish in-suite dinner and bottle of wine if they so desire.

The Chef’s Quarters suite is perfect for foodies, offering guests behind the scenes access to the Inn’s kitchen where the Executive Chef and Sous Chef prepare meals for all the guests of the hotel. Guests are welcome to ask questions to the kitchen staff and sample new menu items when the kitchen is testing them out. This room also offers a picturesque view of the river and has a large private deck for dining.

If guests are looking for an even more lavish experience, they can book one of the Inn’s three cottages on-site. The English Country, French Country and Irish Country Cottages all include a private entrance, a large kitchen area and their own private porch and outside area to take in all of the area’s natural beauty. The three cottages also include a whirlpool tub, fireplace and dining area. Lastly, if guests are looking for even more space, privacy and peace during their stay, they can choose to stay in the Log Cabins. These cabins are the only pet-friendly accommodation on-site and are located away from the main Inn but are situated on grounds that are well kept and the ideal area to walk ones pets. Guests staying in the cabin are delivered a gourmet breakfast every morning as well.

The Inn offers a fine dining restaurant on-site which is available to guests as well as the public. This restaurant overlooks the river and offers a unique menu that is always changing. The chef uses seasonal produce and makes homemade sauces and spices. Some current plates worth mentioning include the trio bruschetta, the farmer’s Flatbread made on homemade flatbread with fresh herbs, eggplant pesto, grilled vegetables, garlic oil and goat cheese, and the blackened Norwegian Salmon made with Creole crawfish sauce.

The restaurant recommends making reservations because it is an Inn favorite that is always busy. The restaurant also offers a variety of wine and spirits from all over the world. These include a large selection of wines from France, Italy, South America and California as well as champagne and other bottles from exotic locations.

The Inn also offers the Chef’s Table to guests who love to eat as much as they love to cook. This table is located inside the kitchen and offers an insider’s view of the hustle and bustle of a professional kitchen for up to eight guests. The kitchen staff, alongside the chef, will teach guests their special techniques and share their favorite ingredients as well as experiences from working in the kitchen. Guests can also sign up for a cooking class and learn how to make new recipes that are used in the Goldmoor Kitchen.

If guests are looking to venture into Galena and the surrounding towns for a meal, there are a few great restaurants to choose from. These include the Sunset Grille, Frank O’Dowd’s Irish Pub and Happy Bean, to name a few. The Sunset Grille is a casual All-American restaurant with a large menu and a perfect location on the river. Frank O’Dowd’s is a local spot offering comfort food like jumbo stuffed mushrooms, chicken fingers and fries and Irish nachos made with corned beef, Swiss cheese and Thousand Island dressing served over potatoes. This is the spot to enjoy live music and entertainment as well. The Happy Bean is the perfect morning pit stop to fill up of caffeine and pastries before starting your day.

For guests looking for a romantic and or relaxing night in their suite, cabin or cottage, the Inn is happy to deliver meals to all rooms for a small five dollar service fee from the on-site restaurant. The restaurant is also happy to provide guests with dining recommendations around the area during their stay.

The Goldmoor Inn is happy to host rehearsal dinners, weddings and a variety of events throughout the year. The Inn is the perfect place to host a wedding or rehearsal dinner, with space that can accommodate up to 56 guests in the Goldmoor Inn Restaurant. When it comes to weddings, the Inn can accommodate up to 250 guests and offers both indoor and outdoor facilities.

The outdoor pavilion sits outside in the meadow and is surrounded by breathtaking gardens full of fragrant flower bushes, flowing springs and natural beauty. It has a permanent, sturdy roof that will provide cover, rain or shine, and can easily accommodate dining and dancing. The Inn also offers the Gazebo and the Grand Hall which are both great options for an indoor wedding ceremony.

The Gazebo is perfect for an intimate wedding and seats up to 20 guests, and the Grand Hall can accommodate up to 48 guests. The bride and groom are each assigned an on-site wedding coordinator, free of charge as well. Other services include flowers, champagne and a wedding cake, as well as hairstyling, manicures and spa and massage services for an additional charge.

The Inn offers seasonal dining events for guests and the public that include summer barbeques, wine tastings, Christmas Carol dinners, Labor Day festivities, movie nights and cooking classes. A few cooking classes that the Inn has put on include a Mexican-style cooking class and a barbeque brisket and microbrew night which are perfect date night ideas and are a fun event to enjoy with friends.

Movie night takes place once a month during the summer, and the Inn will feature films that cater to all ages. Space is limited for all events. The Inn recommends those who are interested in attending a class, event or tasting to call ahead and subscribe to the Inn’s email distribution list so they can keep up with what is happening at the Goldmoor Inn.

If guests are looking for additional activities to do in the Galena area, they can take a riverboat tour down the Mississippi river or rent a paddleboat, kayak or canoe, and paddle and row down the river at their own pace. Chestnut Mountain is also very close and a great spot to go in the winter for skiing and snowboarding, and for hiking and exploring in the summer as well.

Visitors can take a Segway tour of the mountain during the warmer months, and take a ride up the ski lift for amazing views of the river any time of the year. On really clear days, one can see Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin all at the same time from the top of the ski lift.

Golf lovers will enjoy this area as well. Galena and the surrounding Jo Daviess County has 10 picturesque golf courses and most are 18- holes and offer a full bar, grille, pro shop and practice range on-site as well. There are many outdoors activities to choose from, so guests who enjoy the outdoors will really love staying in this area.

For guests looking to unwind and enjoy a nice massage, Galena has a few different places to choose from. Healing Touch of Galena Massage is right downtown and is willing to travel to the hotel for appointments. They offer Swedish and deep tissue massages seven days a week.
