Washburne House was built in 1845 for local politician Elihu Benjamin Washburne, and it stands today as an outstanding example of the architectural Greek-Revival style. Built in 1845 in the Greek Revival style, the Old Market House was constructed by the city to serve as a town hall and enclosed farmer’s market, forming a community hub during Galena’s “Golden Era.” The Old Market House served as a meeting place for the community to discuss important city issues, and it was also home to a variety of vendors selling their wares.

The mountain lodge and resort offer guests a chance for fun no matter the season. With a wide variety of adventures, from ski slopes to zip lines, guests of any age and skill level can come and have a great time. Rated in the top ten list of Midwestern ski resorts by Ski Magazine, this has been a top destination since its creation. It contains over 7 acres and has the ability to lift over 10000 skiers per hour with its renowned ski lift.

Permanent Attractions

The attractions offered are divided into two categories: winter activities and summer activities.

Winter:

Winters at the resort is a magical time at the ski lodge. With a spectacular view of the historic Mississippi River Valley, the resort and lodge offer 19 different ski slopes and trails for snowboarders and is open for guests from Thanksgiving through Saint Patrick’s Day. The mountain has a steep 475-foot vertical drop and multiple 3500-foot ski slopes. There is also a seven-acre terrain park (Far Side), which is the biggest of its type in the entire Midwest region.

With over 5000 luminaries lit up all over, guests can walk or take a carriage ride through the resort and enjoy the spirit of the season.

Around the beginning of the year, visitors can take part in Litfest. This literary festival has been a hit for the last several years, with many free activities and seminars, tea with author re-enactors (Jane Austen is a favorite), lunch offerings, and workshops, Galena comes alive with literary talent and excitement.
