This neighborhood watering hole has 21 beers on tap that rotate daily, great pub grub with locally sourced ingredients, and interesting cocktails both classic and modern. Most beers come from the local craft breweries, and they take their food seriously, making sure that the ingredients are seasonal and local. Try their excellent burgers or Guajillo Chicken Nachos, which come with chicken thighs with guajillo and chili sauce served with house tortilla chips, melted cheddar, cream, and salsa verde. The large covered patio is packed on warm days, and it welcomes dogs on leashes. The pub is known for its live music evenings featuring jazz, bluegrass, folk and country, and excellent acoustics.

A mix of an old corrugated metal airplane hangar and a punk rock dive, Alleyway Café and Bar is a fun place to get a draft beer or a cocktail and grab a burger or pizza. You will love the large mural on the wall outside. In the narrow, dark inside space, there is an old Star Trek pinball machine, a pool table, and even a photo booth. The outdoor patio is large and heated and features huge picnic tables perfect for socializing with strangers. Dogs are welcome, and they will even bring him or her a bowl of water. Oregon’s first cider house, Cider Bite offers 32 ciders on tap that they source from all over the country. You can enjoy your ciders in half-pints, pints, flights, or a growler. It is great place to learn more about ciders, and many people are surprised when they find out how many different kinds there are. The menu is small but interesting. Try their grilled cheese with Brie and honey cranberry spread. They also offer other drinks besides cider, so if you feel like having beer or wine instead, that’s an option. The décor is rustic and unpretentious, the walls are covered in posters, and the most dominant décor feature is a large electronic tap list behind the bar.

One of four Lucky Labrador Beer halls, Quimby occupies a spacious former Freightliner warehouse. During the renovation, they kept many original pieces including a five-ton crane and the original garage door. The atmosphere is unpretentious and welcoming with large communal tables and benches. The menu focuses on popular pub grub that goes well with beer – you’ll find favorites such as pizzas, tapas and sandwiches. The pub has a large covered patio where dogs are welcome, and when the weather is nice, the garage door opens up to link inside with outside space. Quimby has private space for parties for up to 125 people and has its own bar.

Hawthorne pub was the first Lucky Labrador Brew Pubs, located since 1994 in an old renovated warehouse, now the company flagship. In this location they had their first Dogtoberfest and created their legendary peanut sauce. The huge, industrial, chic space has high ceilings and warm colors, with long bar on one side and large outdoor covered patio outside, a perfect space to meet friends on a warm day and enjoy your beer with your dog. There are doggy water bowls all over the place. They offer 12 rotating taps with their own craft beer. The food is great with traditional Lucky Lab sandwiches, salads, soups, and bento boxes.

Located in the former Masonic Temple in Multnomah Village is the second of four Lucky Lab Pubs. As usual, they renovated the place while retaining much of the original material such as the cornerstone, now supporting the bar. They also warmed up the large high ceilinged space with warm colors and lots of pictures of Labradors. Their great beer on tap goes well with their imaginative pizzas and salads. As in other Lucky Lab locations, there is a spacious covered patio with communal tables, perfect for hanging out with your dog. This is the most family friendly of all Lucky Lab locations, and it has a party private room that seats 90 people.

Located in North Portland’s Overlook neighborhood, Killingsworth’s Lucky Lab location is their newest pub, and it shows: unlike their other pubs, it is more refined and has HD TVs on the walls as well as Wi-Fi. The building was used in the past as a Laundromat, a shoe repair shop, and a Cajun restaurant. Now they serve their excellent pizzas with cold beer. There are 16 rotating taps, but there is no brewery at this location. They also serve cider and wine if you bring non-beer drinkers. As usual, the outdoor space has large tables, and it welcomes guests with their four-legged friends. Kids are allowed until 10 pm.

Located in the Mississippi District, this large but warm and welcoming spot is a popular neighboring watering hole and a family destination for great German beers and authentic German food. You will notice the silhouette of Storm Breaker on one of the walls. The place is decorated in industrial chick with high ceilings, exposed ducts and communal picnic tables, but the atmosphere is wonderful and lively. The outdoor patio has colorful umbrellas for when it drizzles or is too sunny, and you can bring along dog if you wish.

A restaurant and bar on Portland’s Historic Mississippi Avenue, The Rambler has some big shoes to fill. It occupies the place where the popular Casa Naranja and then Bungalo Bar once existed, and the owners were smart to keep some of the good things and get rid of the not so good. You can still enjoy their wonderful heated patio with a fire pit, hanging chairs, and hammocks but you also have some modern features like as a flat-screen TV and picnic tables. The selection of craft beers and cocktails is great and so are their sandwiches. You can bring your dog to the patio, on a leash.

Twenty First Avenue Kitchen and Bar has been a popular neighborhood bar and restaurant for more than 20 years. The new owners renovated the space to focus on comfort, and the establishment has the cozy vibe of a large living room. The outside patio is lovely with large shady trees. They serve cocktails in fun mason jars and have a range of local craft beers on tap. The food is classic pub grub like burgers, wraps, sliders, and sandwiches, all of which are excellent. Ingredients are locally sourced whenever possible. Dogs are welcome at their outdoor space.

The White Owl Social Club is not just another club. Located in the Portland Southeast neighborhood, it has a doorman and a long line of people trying to get it, the drinks are reasonably priced and the wait is worth it. Inside space is cozy with large booths and soft lighting, but the action is mostly on the large outdoor patio where the club has frequent live music and a daily DJ. They serve a large range of local craft beers on tap, fun cocktails, and tasty dishes, from kale slaw and seasonal salad with quinoa to Buffalo fried cauliflower and the Michigan-style chili dog. Dogs are welcome on the patio.
